NICOLE KELLY
I’m into cultural criticism,
reality dating shows,
Plutonian transits,
Black Weirdoism &
laughing through the pain.
My fiction has appeared in ZZYZZVA, Fiction Southeast, Best Small Fictions, and some now defunct lit mags (RIP). A former Kimbilio Fiction Fellow, I got an MFA from the Programs In Writing at UC Irvine after writing a book about slutty girls who like to travel.
For several years I was the programming director at a feminist art space in LA, where I edited Decolonizing Non-Violent Communication for Co-Conspirator Press and learned a lot about consensus decision making.
I produced and hosted bitchface, an experimental audio series, with Phoebe Unter. bitchface produced the 2020 season of The Heart (named one of the best podcasts of the year by Atlantic magazine & called “a shockingly intimate portrait of what it means to be alive in a human body” in the NYT).
I produced some stories for VICE’s Source Material. I was the senior producer of Black Mountain Radio, a community & artist driven radio program (and a Believer magazine collab). I provided script coverage for the award winning first season of the Zim-Australian audio drama Private Affairs, and was a contributing story editor for Transmitter Media. I was a 2022 AIR Edit Mode Fellow.
I now work as a story editor on season 2 of The Anti Trans Hate Machine.
